A National Reading Month Initiative
Wednesday
March 27, 2019
DETROIT, MI - Our Grand Polemarch (National President) Thomas L. Battles Jr. launched a National "Back to School" initiative in 2015. Our children are growing up in a global environment where challenges loom on every front. They are witnessing turmoil throughout the world and increasing discord in the neighborhoods where they live. It becomes the unintended role of educators, to help parents and community activists to effect social change that will be positive for our youth.
It’s not enough for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to simply wish our educators well, but it’s up to us to continue being leaders in the community, mentoring young people, visiting schools and helping wherever needed.
Thus, the Detroit Alumni Chapter is answering the clarion call to action and will be visiting Dixon Educational Learning Academy on Wednesday March 27, 2019. Fraternity members from the Detroit Alumni Chapter and their collegiate affiliate the Alpha Beta Chapter, which includes members attending Wayne State University and University of Detroit Mercy will be on hand to provide encouragement to the students. In addition, in support of National Reading Month we will be reading to the students. We will also be donating copies of "Donovan’s College Adventure" to each classroom we visit.
Donovan’s College Adventure is an inspirational read for Elementary School students and the latest release from Critically Acclaimed Author and Educator Jahquan Hawkins, who is also a member of the Detroit Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He will be on hand to read to the students and sign copies of the book.
